La Première Dame SE Angeline Ndayishimiye: Lauréate du Prix des Nations Unies en matière de la population édition 2023.

Ce 12 juillet 2023, la Première Dame du Burundi SE Angeline NDAYISHIMIYE a reçu, à New York au Siège des Nations Unies, le Prix des Nations Unies en matière de la Population dans la catégorie individuelle. Ce prix, créé par l’Assemblée générale en novembre 1981 (résolution 36/201) reconnait et récompense un individu et/ou une institution ayant contribué de façon remarquable à sensibiliser la communauté  aux questions relatives à la population ainsi qu'à leurs solutions.

Le Fonds des Nations Unies pour la Population, qui assure le secrétariat du Comité d’attribution de ce prix, a, dans son annonce, qualifié la Première Dame comme « une philanthrope infatigable et une défenseure des droits des femmes et des jeunes filles au Burundi ». Des qualifications qui l’ont toujours caractérisée dans ses positions de Première Dame et de Présidente de la Fondation Bonne Action Umugiraneza qu’elle a personnellement créé et qui lui ont valu cette prestigieuse récompense.

Dans son discours, la Première Dame SE Angeline Ndayishimiye a déclaré que ce prix n’est pas « seulement un prix mais aussi un encouragement à persévérer dans les actions menées en faveur de la population burundaise, surtout les femmes, les jeunes et les plus vulnérables. »

 

« Lorsque nous nous sommes engagés dans la transformation des vies de nos braves populations, à travers l’OPDD-Burundi ou la Fondation Bonne Action UMUGIRANEZA, nous voulions redonner le sourire et la dignité aux personnes que nous servons. » a-t-elle ajouté.

Dans sa citation pour le prix de la Première Dame,  la Directrice exécutive de l'UNFPA, Dr Natalia Kanem, a dit que cette récompense lui était décernée  « en reconnaissance de son leadership et de ses activités de plaidoyer en matière de traitement et de sensibilisation du public aux problèmes de santé stigmatisants et mal traités tels que les fistules obstétricales, de lutte contre les causes profondes et les conséquences de la violence et des violences basées sur le genre en particulier, grâce à des solutions concrètes : la création d'un centre de psychologie pour améliorer le bien-être psychosocial et l'engagement à renforcer l'information sur la santé sexuelle et reproductive dans la République du Burundi. »

L’Edition 2023 de ce prix s’est produite un jour après la célébration de la journée mondiale de la population sous le thème : « Elever la voix des femmes et des filles pour débloquer les possibilités infinies de notre monde ». Un thème concordant parfaitement avec les engagements de la Première Dame.

En marge de cette occasion, la Première Dame SE Angeline NDAYISHIMIYE a participé, en date du 11 juillet, aux activités de formation sur la santé et le développement organisées par l'Académie Mondiale des Premières Dames, à l'Université de Columbia. Ce symposium de quatre jours avait comme ultime de « discuter des tendances actuelles, de la recherche critique et des approches durables et fondées sur des données probantes pour promouvoir la santé et le bien-être de la population. »
